And when this was with His enticing to Paradise and the deeds that lead to it, a sermon that softens the hearts and clears the sorrows, it caused His saying: "So remind". That is, renew the reminder with such as this for everyone who hopes for His goodness, and continue upon that. And He called it a reminder because it is something that a person knows if he reflects deeply from himself or from the horizons. And He justified the reminder by saying: "So what are you?" That is, while you are the noblest of people in lineage, the most complete of them in soul, and the purest of them in character, they acknowledge this about you before prophethood. "By the favor of your Lord"; that is, because of what He has bestowed upon you, the Benefactor to you, from this greatest revelation after preparing you for it with what He has equipped you with from sound intellect, high ambition, noble actions, generosity of hand, purity of morals, and noble lineage. And He emphasized the negation by saying: "By a soothsayer"; that is, you say words - while it is rhymed and contrived - most of it is empty, and you judge the unseen with what contradicts some of it. And when the soothsayer and the madman have a connection with the jinn, He followed that with His saying: "Nor a madman"; that is, you say words that have no order with the informing of some of the unseen. So let their saying not deter you from the reminder, for it is a false saying that does not bring you any disgrace at all. And soon it will be a shame for them that will not be washed away from them except by their following you. So whoever among them follows you will wash away his shame, and whoever persists in his stubbornness will continue in his ruin and loss.
