And when he narrated from them, glorified and exalted is He, that they affirmed for themselves an action as a training for the one whose happiness was intended, it was such that it was thought that they saw it as the cause of what they reached. They said, denying this assumption, clarifying that what they are in is merely a beginning, a favor from Allah, the Most High, because their fear of Him, glorified and exalted is He, is so that a person does not depend on anything from his own actions. Therefore, he remains in awe of his Lord, fearful of Him: ﴿So Allah bestowed﴾, the One who has all perfection, due to our fear of Him ﴿upon us﴾ with what is appropriate to His perfection, so He granted us security ﴿and protected us﴾, meaning He kept us safe with what He covered us with ﴿from the punishment of the scorching wind﴾, meaning the intense heat that penetrates the pores like the penetration of poison.
