Commentary
And when the bliss cannot be complete except by the person being served, He alerted to it by His saying: ﴿reclining﴾ meaning leaning in a way that brings comfort, because they are being served, so they have no need for movement ﴿on thrones lined up﴾ meaning arranged one beside another, level as if they are lines in the best and most exquisite order. Al-Asbahani said: and the description is: extending something in succession. And when the joy cannot be complete except by enjoying women, He said: ﴿and We married them﴾ meaning a marriage that befits our greatness. And when that abode is free from causes, they are free from contracts, He indicated by the preposition 'bi' to divert the action from its apparent meaning, for if it means marriage, it would be self-sufficient, and the implication of the action 'We paired them' meaning We made them couples paired ﴿with maidens﴾ meaning women who are in extreme whiteness of the eyes and extreme blackness of them, and roundness of their pupils and delicacy of their eyelids in a way that cannot be described ﴿eyes﴾ meaning wide-eyed in beauty and grace.
