Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, swore by the truth of His warning to them, and indicated that by all means of their conditions regarding His will. And He concluded with His power, which has no limit, causing the punishment to befall the warned ones. He said, confirming for the sake of their denial: "Indeed, for those who have wronged"; meaning: those who placed things in other than their rightful places. And when the oath was regarding what they are promised that brings the rain, He expressed their share that He has decreed upon them from that by saying: "sins"; meaning: a long line of punishment of evil, as if from its length it has a tail, and it is upon their sins "like the sins of their companions"; meaning: those whose wrongdoing preceded them by denying the messengers. And it is in its resemblance to it like a bucket that is drawn with another bucket. And that is clear evidence that what they are promised is true, and that the Day of Judgment is inevitable. "So let them not hasten it"; meaning: let them not seek for it to come to them before its appointed time; for indeed, that is only done by one who is deficient. And I am above that; I do not fear missing it, nor will incapacity reach me, nor will I be described by it. And it is inevitable that I will inflict it upon them at the time I have decreed for them in eternity; for it is the most deserving of times for their punishment due to the completeness of their sins. And then it will be, so how terrifying is that threat, and how great and painful is that warning! An affair that no one can avert, nor can anyone prevent its occurrence. And for this reason, He caused His saying to follow:
