And when this was, it might have misled that others are not capable of it. He said, confirming with exclusivity, indicating that He is the one who divided the people into transgressors and believers by referring to what He decrees: 'So what He has judged upon them of misguidance and guidance is not by me, and I did not send the messengers and reveal the books except for the purpose of rescuing the believers and establishing the proof against the misguided: 'And I did not create the jinn and mankind'—most of whom are disbelievers—'except to worship Me.' That is: to submit under My decrees in a manner that benefits them or harms them, not for anything that would bring me any benefit or harm. For I have created them upon incapacity and placed in them the inclinations of desire, and I have instilled in them instincts to prepare them for following the guidance. So whoever obeys his intellect is a worshipper of Me, fleeing to Me while his will runs under the command, a legal worship that benefits him with reward. And whoever obeys his desire is a worshipper of Me while opposing My command, a worship that is volitional and coercive, deserving of punishment. And every follower of his desire, if he reflects deeply, knows that the good is in other than what he is committing. So what compels him to what he is in, while knowing that other than it is better than it, except the overpowering of My will. Thus, this is a linguistic worship, and that is a legal worship. And it has passed in the end of Hud what benefits here. And all of this is the meaning of the saying of Ibn Abbas: 'except to acknowledge for Me in worship willingly and unwillingly.'
