Commentary
﴿Did they enjoin one another with it?﴾ [This means] some of the earlier ones and the later ones advised each other about this.
And when He presented this in the form of a question, it indicated a saying that should be asked about its reason due to its obscurity. He answered it by saying that they did not enjoin one another with it; for the earlier ones did not gather with the later ones: ﴿Rather, they﴾ gathered in a description that led them to that. And that is that they are ﴿a people﴾, meaning: people of arrogance and pride ﴿transgressors﴾, meaning: they are elevated in disbelief, excessive in wrongdoing and sins, exceeding the limits. And He indicated with the pronoun that transgression is an inherent matter for them. So, it is praised of Him, glorified and exalted is He, that He is the One who subdued them by leading them to their destruction by His complete power and His comprehensive knowledge.
