Commentary

And when their destruction was by the water that descended from the heavens and emerged from the earth without measure, perhaps some might have thought that this was due to a flaw in both. Then it was rectified afterward, as happens with some of the kings who perform an action and strive for its perfection, but it becomes flawed. He said, emphasizing what was set forth, 'On the Day,' clarifying that the act of that was not by choice, indicating His oneness for the completeness of [the ability] that indicates what has preceded regarding the matter of resurrection: 'And the heaven We constructed' by that which we possess of greatness, 'with hands,' meaning: with great power and strength that cannot be measured. And since the heaven is more suitable for its greatness and purity with the attributes of divinity, He said and confirmed what must be denied by them regarding resurrection from the objection to the ability: 'And indeed, We' with our greatness, 'are surely expansive,' meaning: wealthy and capable, possessing an unlimited capacity, that is: ability, from the breadth which is gentleness. Likewise, We have expanded the measure of its mass and what is in it from sustenance for its people. The entire earth, despite its vastness, is like a point in the center of the circle of the heaven by that which the attribute of divinity necessitated, in which partnership is not valid at all. And We are capable of what cannot be counted from such things, and of what is greater than that, which is endless. And We encompass everything with ability and knowledge, and We are deserving and worthy that this be among our attributes so that We may be described by it for what is observed for us of power over all that We desire. So We are not like those who are known among the kings; for when they act, they cannot achieve greater than that, and if they could, it would be with difficulty and hardship. And you will see on the Day of Resurrection what diminishes and what you desire in comparison to it. And from our expansiveness is making it without pillars, despite what it is upon of greatness, and other matters that are extraordinary beyond the usual.
