Commentary

And when what the context of the surah necessitated regarding the story of the people of the wind that carries, was completed, it followed with the story of those who were destroyed by what the clouds carry of the wind and what the wind carries of the sound of the devastating, overwhelming cry. He said: ﴿And in Thamud﴾ meaning: the people of Salih, peace be upon him, is a great sign. Likewise, ﴿When﴾ meaning: at the time ﴿it was said to them﴾ by one who does not break the promise: ﴿Enjoy yourselves﴾ meaning: with the milk of the she-camel and other things from what We have enabled you in terms of crops, palm trees, and buildings in the mountains and plains, and other than that from the great matters which We commanded you with, and do not transgress ﴿for a time﴾ meaning: a period we have set for your lifetimes.
