Commentary
And when there was in this a greater yearning for the answer, He, the Exalted, began the response with His saying: ﴿They said, 'So be it'﴾, meaning: like what we have said regarding this great glad tidings. ﴿Your Lord said﴾, meaning: the One who is gracious to you by preparing you for that based on what you mentioned of your condition and by preparing you before the connection with His friend ﷺ. And when the point of her astonishment was that this was in her days of youth, they explained their news, affirming it, confirming that her saying and action were the actions of one who denies, even though she intended by it nothing but verification: ﴿Indeed, He is﴾, meaning: alone ﴿the All-Knowing﴾, who places things in their most rightful places. Thus, He arranged the greatness of this newborn based on both your barrenness and your incapacity; then they explained that by saying: ﴿the All-Wise﴾, meaning: the One whose knowledge encompasses all, for nothing can overwhelm Him due to the previous evidence in Surah 'Ta-Ha' that the encompassing of knowledge necessitates the completeness of power.
