Commentary
And when He pointed to the signs of the horizons, He followed them with the signs of the selves, saying: ﴿And in yourselves﴾ meaning: among the signs with which you share the inanimate, then you surpassed it by growth, then by sense, and then you surpassed the base animal by the intellect that leads to the wonders of [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN: al-‘ulum] and the subtleties of [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN: al-fuhum]. And when the clearest signs were, He caused the denial of them in leaving consideration of them, saying: ﴿Do you not see?﴾ meaning: with your eyes and your insights so that you reflect on what is in that of the signs and contemplate whether you see the causes of most of them; for indeed all these are signs indicating the power of the Creator over all that He wills and chooses, and that He did not create this creation in vain, so it is necessary that He gathers them to Him for presentation to Him. The certain ones continue to look at such things with insightful eyes and penetrating understandings, so whenever they see a sign, they take it as a lesson, thus increasing their faith to their faith, and certainty with their certainty. Their first gaze is what they have been endowed with from the signs of necessity, so whoever reflects on them knows that he is a servant, and when he knows that, he knows that he has a Lord who is not in need. And whoever perceives all the attributes and names, and his understanding penetrates the transparency of beings, rises to the highest degrees.
