Commentary

And when he ruled regarding their forgetfulness, he indicated it by his saying: "They ask" meaning: from time to time, in a manner of continuous mockery of their saying: "When is it?" meaning: when and at what time is the "Day of Judgment" meaning: the occurrence of the recompense that he informs us of. If it were not for the fact that they, in this condition, would remember from themselves that there is no one among them who sends his servants or workers to do any work except that he holds them accountable for their actions, and he certainly looks into their conditions, and he judges between them in their sayings and actions, then how could it be assumed of the most just of judges that he would leave his servants whom he created upon this precise system and fashioned for them these two realms and prepared for them in them what they do not need to provision for the Hereafter, and then leave them in vain, creating them in futility?
