And when the descent of water is one of the most astonishing signs and the clearest evidence that it is too great to be said: that it is either inside the world or outside of it, or connected to it or separate from it. While it is by it that plants grow and sustenance is obtained, and by it is the life of everything, He singled it out to draw attention to that and said: ﴿And We sent down﴾ meaning: something bit by bit at times in a manner suitable to our greatness which cannot be compared to anything hidden, with what it has of transmission, emergence, and penetration. So it descended all at once, and what descended upon it was destroyed, and the barren land became beneficial again. ﴿From the heaven﴾ meaning: the high place where water cannot be held from continuous dripping except by a conqueror. ﴿Blessed water﴾ meaning: very beneficial, stable, not a phantom surrounding all your benefits.

And when water is the cause of the formation of things, and that is the reason for its gathering until it becomes wood, grain, grapes, and other wonders, He said: ﴿So We caused to grow﴾ expressing with the pronoun of greatness ﴿thereby gardens﴾ of fruits, trees, crops, and other things that gardens gather, which cover - meaning conceal - what is inside them. And when the reed is harvested, its grain becomes food for animals and its stalk for livestock, He specified it by saying: ﴿And the grain of the harvest﴾ meaning: the grains that are meant to be harvested from wheat, barley, and similar things. And he hinted at the restriction that these grains are nobler than the grains of pearls that Allah causes to grow from rain, because they are for the sustenance of the plant, while those are for adornment.
