Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, established the evidence for the completeness of His power and the comprehensiveness of His knowledge, and concluded with its ease upon Him and His exclusivity therein, He reached a consolation for the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, by threatening them for their denial with the knowledge which is the greatest threat. He said: ﴿We﴾ meaning: no one other than us nor themselves ﴿know better﴾ meaning: than all who are imagined to have knowledge ﴿about what they say﴾ meaning: in the present and the future regarding the denial of resurrection and others, while they acknowledge our power.
And when the estimation was: So we are able to turn them away from it by what we have of encompassing knowledge, and you are for them a warner warning them of that, He added to it His saying: ﴿And you are not upon them﴾. And when the particle of superiority implied coercion and dominance, He stated it clearly, emphasizing the negation by saying: ﴿With a mighty﴾ meaning: a proud, overpowering, and forceful one who turns them away by force from what you dislike of their words and actions. Indeed, you are merely a warner. And when He negated coercion from Him, He affirmed for them what the conjunction of the sentence implied about warning, as I have estimated it before. He said, causing it to be expressed with the reminder that comes from forgetfulness; for all that is in the Qur'an of admonition, if a person reflects upon it, he finds it evident in himself or in what he knows of the horizons. ﴿So remind﴾ meaning: in the way of glad tidings and warning ﴿with the Qur'an﴾ meaning: that which encompasses with its glory every good, encompassing every righteousness ﴿who fears the warning﴾ meaning: whose fear is possible, and this is every rational person. However, He presented it this way to indicate that the one who fears in action, and whose state reveals his Islam, is the one specifically intended. As for others, they are only intended to establish the proof against them, not for their stubbornness, nor is there any regret for them, nor are they affected by their denial. Rather, it is believed that they are non-existent; their enmity does not harm nor does their allegiance benefit. And they have harmed only themselves and all who ally with them in this world and the Hereafter. And this is the glory of the Qur'an and of the One who revealed it and of the one who brought it from Him with complete power, whose attributes and encompassing knowledge have been established. Thus, this latter has turned towards that former with the greatest turning, and its branches have wrapped around its root with the most complete wrapping. Those of excellence and the people of fairness and the attributes of advancement in every craft have acknowledged it with a precedence that cannot be caught by any acknowledgment. And Allah is the guide to the right path.
