Commentary

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, diverted him from what he hears from them of denial and other harm by turning towards Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, and waiting for his support, He followed it with a comforting indication in which He made apparent what He depicted on the day of their calamity and brought it close until he hears at the time of the revelation of this verse what is in it for them of punishments and the blows of calamities, as a warning to them and good tidings for His allies of the completion of His support for them and His victory for them in this world and the Hereafter. So He said: 'And listen' meaning listen with your full intention to hear with all your effort by inclining your hearing and turning your heart after your glorification and praise of what is said to them 'on the day the caller calls' to them in this world on the day of Badr; the first of the days in which Allah manifested His glory to His allies by taking revenge on His enemies, and in the Hereafter on the Day of Resurrection in the form of the second blowing of the trumpet and what follows it.

And when the intention was to manifest greatness by depicting the completeness of power, and that is achieved by making the distant hear from the place of the caller just as the near hears, and closeness is essential for hearing, He depicted that by saying: 'from a place' it is the rock of Bayt al-Maqdis 'near' meaning: the one who is far hears the sound just as the one who is near hears it, they will be equal in the places, there is no distinction between them at all.
