Commentary
And when he mentioned what is more indicative of love for the worshiped, for it is the time of dispersal to the necessary matters by which sustenance is maintained and returning to the purpose of physical comfort through eating, drinking, playing, and gathering after dispersal and joining together with what is in both times of the evident indication of the wrapping of creation and then their spreading, he followed it with what is the time of stillness intended for comfort with the pleasure of reclining and sleeping. He said: ﴿And in the night﴾ meaning: at some of its times ﴿so glorify Him﴾ with the prayers of Maghrib and Isha and the night prayer; for the night is the time of solitude, and it is the most delightful of conversations.
And when he mentioned the obligatory acts that cannot be avoided in a way that includes the voluntary prayers and others, he followed it with the voluntary acts that are bound to it. He said: ﴿And after the prostrations﴾ meaning: that which is the most complete of its kind, which is the obligatory prayer with what is prayed after it from the regular prayers and the glorification with the words as well. Al-Razi said: And know that the reward of the words is according to the capacity of their emergence from the hearts of knowledge and wisdom, and that the eye of his heart revolves as the tongue does, and he observes their realities and meanings. So glorification is a declaration of purity from everything that can be imagined in the mind, or is depicted in the imagination, or imprinted in the senses, or revolves in the whispers. And praise reveals the favor and the act of the Creator, and that He is the Unique in blessings. It has ended.
And its meaning is that this praise is the reality. So when it is realized in the hearts, it stands with the tongue, and it is imagined with the limbs, and it is carried upon the prayer because it is the best of acts of worship. It encompasses what is in it from sayings and actions for the two aspects of remembrance: glorification and praise. And these two prayers from which the best prayers are derived are the greatest of what has occurred (p-440) glorification with praise, and the meaning - and Allah knows best - is that engaging in it is a request for rain from the Praised, the Glorified, for victory over the deniers. And that the prayer is the greatest remedy for victory and the removal of worry. For this reason, 'the Prophet ﷺ would turn to prayer when something troubled him.'
