Commentary

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, indicated the comprehensiveness of knowledge and the encompassing of power, and revealed in both matters in the most complete manner, the knowledge of the beloved, the capable, regarding what the enemy does, was the greatest warning for the enemy and a glad tidings for the ally. This was caused by His saying: ﴿So be patient with what﴾ meaning: all that ﴿they say﴾ meaning: the disbelievers and others. And when their words were not fitting for the Most Sacred Majesty, He, glorified and exalted is He, commanded what indicates that this is by His will and that it necessitates His glorification and perfection; because He has subdued the speaker to his words, and if the matter were by the will of that speaker independently, it would be extremely far from Him; because it necessitates destruction. So He said: ﴿And glorify﴾ meaning: perform the glorification from every blemish of deficiency, being engaged ﴿with the praise of your Lord﴾ meaning: by affirming the encompassing of all attributes of perfection for the Lord, the Planner, who has bestowed upon you all these proofs which He has favored you with over all creation in all that ﴿before the rising of the sun﴾ with the Fajr prayer, and what is fitting for Him from the glorification other than it ﴿and before the setting﴾ with the Asr and Dhuhr prayers likewise, for the Asr is the origin for that time and the Dhuhr is subordinate to it.
