Commentary
Indeed, you were in a state of great negligence surrounding you, arising from this, meaning from the perception of this day as it is, of the severance of causes, and the recompense with reward or punishment. For it is hidden from those who follow desires, despite its clarity. So We uncovered from you your covering, which was preventing you from seeing it due to negligence by hopes in status, wealth, and other pleasures. This is a realization of what He, glorified and exalted is He, has of encompassing knowledge and incapacitation. And according to Al-Wasiti: whoever has the covering of negligence lifted sees all things in the grasp of power, and the realities of things are unveiled to him in their essence. This is an expression of knowledge about the conditions of the Day of Resurrection.
And when this unveiling caused complete exposure, He expressed it by saying: "So your sight today," meaning after the resurrection, "is sharp," meaning in the utmost sharpness and penetration. Therefore, you will acknowledge what you used to deny.
