And when the decree was made, from that blowing there was a tremendous cry and a comprehensive shaking. The people rose up from their graves, and what was in their hearts was manifested. He then mentioned his words as an explanation for the encompassing presentation: ﴿And every soul came﴾ [meaning] accountable ﴿with it a driver﴾ who drives it to what it greatly dislikes due to its knowledge of what it has brought forth of shortcomings ﴿and a witness﴾ who bears witness against it for what it has done. The apparent meaning of this is that the driver has no connection to the testimony at all; lest that soul say: 'He is an adversary,' and the testimony of an adversary is not accepted. It will then be said to the negligent in deeds in a manner of emphasis, in accordance with what he deserves to be denied in this world, and as a reminder that due to its greatness, it is deserving of emphasis:
