Commentary

And when the actions of the tongue, the heart, and the body arise from the speech of the self, the speech is comprehensive. He said, clarifying his encompassing knowledge by the encompassing of the one who established it for the preservation of this comprehensive creation, in response to one who might have said: What do the two receivers do? ﴿He does not utter﴾ means: he throws and brings forth what the accountable one has from his mouth. And he negates by saying: ﴿any saying﴾ means: from what has preceded the prohibition against it in the chambers, from backbiting and what came before it, and other than that, whether little or much. ﴿Except before him﴾ means: the human or the saying in a form of ability and greatness, which is among the most astonishing of the astonishing. ﴿A watcher﴾ means: one who observes us, who is very attentive to him in all of his states. ﴿Ready﴾ means: present, observing, not heedless in any way. Al-Baghawi narrated with his chain from the way of Al-Thalabi from Abu Umamah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "The recorder of good deeds is on the right of the man, and the recorder of bad deeds is on the left of the man. The recorder of good deeds is in charge of the recorder of bad deeds. So when he does a good deed, the one on the right writes it down as ten. And when he does a bad deed, the one on the right says to the one on the left: Leave him for seven hours, perhaps he will glorify or seek forgiveness."
