Commentary
And when He encouraged - glorified and exalted is He - and warned; it was known that He is the One who rewards alone; so this resulted in that there is no one else besides Him; except for what He has commanded him with; so this resulted in that; and there is no doubt; His saying: ﴿What is upon the Messenger﴾; meaning: that which pertains to conveying; ﴿except the conveying﴾; meaning: that it is permissible for you to eat and other than that; and it is forbidden for you to consume alcohol and other than it; and it is not upon him to know what you conceal; and what you reveal; to hold you accountable for it; ﴿And Allah﴾; meaning: the One who encompasses everything in power; and knowledge; ﴿knows what you reveal﴾; meaning: you renew revealing it based on what is established; ﴿and what you conceal﴾; of faith; and disbelief; and disobedience; and obedience; and intent to kill game and other than it; and love for alcohol and other than it; and deep involvement in religion; by prohibiting what is lawful from food and drink and other than it; excessively; and neglectfully; because He is the One who created you; and has decreed that in you at its times; so He will reward you based on what is in the essence of the matter; whoever disobeys, He will take him with severe punishment; and whoever obeys, He will grant him good reward; and as for the Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, he does not judge except by what he knows of what you reveal; unless I disclose to him the hidden; and command him in it with My command; and this also refers to His saying (the Most High): ﴿Convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord﴾ [Al-Ma'idah: 67]
