Commentary
And when he informed of their acknowledgment of the abominations; he indicated that with a clear matter from them; necessary; established; permanent; undermining the structure of their religion; he said - directing his speech to the most truthful of people in insight; and the most knowledgeable among them; and the most steadfast in discernment; and understanding -: "You see many of them"; meaning: from the People of the Book; and when a person does not align with the party of Satan except by contesting the original sound nature; he pointed to that with "the act of turning"; he said: "They turn away"; meaning: they follow with all their effort; "those who disbelieved"; meaning: the polytheists; striving in that; persisting in it; and none of them forbids them from that; nor does anyone find it repugnant to them; despite their testimony against themselves of misguidance; they and their ancestors; until this Prophet came whom they were eagerly awaiting; and with him they were ultimately delighted; and they claimed to believe in him; then they opposed him; so among them are those who continued in opposition outwardly; and inwardly; and among them are those who claimed to be followers while continuing in opposition inwardly; so their allegiance to the polytheists was evidence of the falsehood of their claim; and it revealed what they concealed of opposition and hid.
And when that was for them a inclination with desires without any evidence at all; he said: "Evil is what they have sent forth"; meaning: the provision of hospitality for the guest; "for themselves"; meaning: that which is inclined with desires; then he clarified the specific matter of blame - which is what I have sent forth - by saying: "that Allah has become angry"; meaning: His anger has fallen; with all that He has of greatness; "upon them"; and when it is possible for one upon whom anger has fallen to be removed from it; he said - clarifying that mere occurrence is worthy of every destruction -: "and in the punishment"; meaning: the complete one; from the lesser in this world; and the greater in the Hereafter; "they are eternal."
