Commentary
And when it is the nature of the rational person that he does not proceed to falsehood; if this occurs from him, and he feels a type of harm that comes because of it; he hastens to refrain from it. This warning - after clarifying the defect - leads to the denial against them for not hastening to repentance; clarifying that the meaning of 'they disbelieved' is that they persisted in it. So he said: 'Will they not repent?' meaning: will they not return after this disbelief, which is clearer in its invalidity and more evident in its corruption; and the severe warning; 'to Allah' meaning: the One characterized by every beautiful attribute; 'and seek His forgiveness' meaning: they ask Him for forgiveness for what they have committed of the evident disgrace. And when the estimation is: 'Indeed, Allah is the Accepting of Repentance, the All-Wise'; he added to it His saying: 'And Allah'; and it is permissible that the estimation is: 'while the One who possesses all the attributes of perfection eternally and everlastingly'; 'Forgiving' meaning: He is extensive in forgiveness; He erases sins; so He does not punish for them; nor does He blame; 'Merciful' meaning: He is extensive in honoring those who turn to Him.
