Commentary
And when He denied them in their claim of faith, He established - glorified and exalted is He - the proof of their disbelief. He said - addressing the one who has complete patience - indicating that He informed him ﷺ of what He knows of them, of what they conceal of that. This is in confirmation of His saying (the Most High): ﴿And you will surely recognize them by the tone of their speech﴾ [Muhammad: 30]. The informing is like the vision. This is in addition to what you are able to understand: And We have informed others among the believers of what We know of them from that. As for you, you see what is in their hearts by what We have given you of revelation -: ﴿And you see﴾; meaning: it continues to be renewed for you; ﴿Many of them﴾; meaning: the Jews; and the disbelievers; their hypocrites; and their open ones.
And when the expression of haste is not correct here; because it can only be in something that has two times; a suitable time; and an unsuitable time; and sin cannot occur in that. (p-216) He said: ﴿They hasten﴾; meaning: they act in their eagerness towards that like one who debates an opponent in speed in what he is right about; and he knows that he is in the utmost good. And it was appropriate to express it with the pronoun; so it could be said: 'in it' - meaning: disbelief; so he expressed it generally; and by linking the ruling to the description; indicating that their disbelief is from a means that is in the utmost of wickedness; by His saying: ﴿In sin﴾; meaning: everything that necessitates sin from the sins; and he specified from it the greatest; so he said: ﴿And transgression﴾; meaning: exceeding the limit in that which is greatest of it is polytheism. Then he affirmed the matter and illustrated it with what would be a clear proof of what preceded it from their engagement in the forbidden; which the sound heart cannot possibly have alongside it; nor can they deny it; so he said: ﴿And their consuming of unlawful things﴾; meaning: the forbidden; which uproots the blessing from its essence; and obliterates it; and from it is bribery. And this was a proof of their disbelief; because if they were believers, they would not persist in anything of that; so how about all of it?! So how about the hastening in it?! And for that, they deserved the utmost blame; by His saying: ﴿Evil is what they were doing﴾; and when they claimed knowledge, he expressed their actions with the deed; so he said: ﴿They do﴾.
