Commentary
And when the decree was: "So whoever takes them as allies; then those are the party of Satan; and the party of Satan are the losers"; he added to it: "And whoever takes Allah as an ally"; meaning: he should strive in the guardianship of the One who has the sources of might; "and His Messenger"; whose character is the Qur'an; "and those who have believed" [Al-Ma'idah: 55]; and he repeated the mention of those whom guardianship is specified with; seeking blessings in their names; and clarifying the intended meaning; for they are the victorious ones; thus was the origin; but he manifested what honored them with; encouraging them in their guardianship; so he said: "Indeed, the party of Allah"; meaning: the people whom He gathers upon what pleases the Most High King, what has gathered them; meaning: it has become intense upon them therein; "they are the victorious ones"; meaning: no one else; rather, others are defeated; then to the Fire they will be gathered; because they are the party of Satan.
