Commentary
And when the estimation was: "So how can they refer to you for judgment while they deny you and claim that you are an invalidator?"; he added to it his saying - astonished by them; reproaching them -: "And how can they refer to you for judgment?"; that is: in any matter; "while they have"; that is: while it is with them; "the Torah"; then he began his saying: "In it is the judgment of Allah"; that is: which no greatness can compare to its greatness; and it is that which was established in their law that it does not allow for disagreement with it; so if they believe that until now, it is not permissible for them to turn to you; according to their claim; and if they do not believe it and believe that your judgment is the truth and they do not believe in you, they have indeed believed in part; and disbelieved in part.
And when the disregard for His judgment - glorified and exalted is He - is great; and its occurrence from one who claims to be a believer in it is far; great; severe; he said: "Then they turn away"; that is: they impose upon themselves the disregard for it; whether your judgment is supported by it or not; for the sake of worldly disregard; and when the intended meaning of judgment is the genus; and they were doing some of its judgments; (p-144) the time of their turning away did not encompass the time of distance; he included the neighbor for that; and he said: "After that"; that is: the high matter; and it is the judgment which they know is the judgment of Allah; so their referring to you without belief in you remains nothing but play.
And when the estimation was: "So those are not the ones who seek the truth in their turning to you"; he added to it his saying: "And those are not"; that is: far from Allah; "believers"; that is: deeply rooted in the attribute of believing in their Book; nor in anything else that deserves to be believed in; for if they were deeply rooted in that, they would have believed in you; for their Book called to you.
