So it is as if it was said: 'Indeed, this is a fall that is unlike any other'; so what happened to them after that? It was said: 'Two men said'; and he referred to their being from the Children of Israel by his saying - reproaching those among them who hesitated about the command -: 'from those who fear'; meaning: there exists among them fear of the tyrants; and despite that, they did not fear; trusting in the promise of Allah; and when the Children of Israel were worthy of being feared by those who intended to fight them; because Allah is with them by His help; and His victory; it was read: 'they fear'; constructed in the passive form; 'Allah has bestowed'; meaning: with what He has of perfect attributes; 'upon them'; meaning: by affirming them in acting upon the truth of the leadership - and they are Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Yefuneh - as He bestowed upon you, O Arabs; and specifically the leaders; with steadfastness in every situation; 'enter upon them the gate'; meaning: the gate of their village; in compliance with the command of Allah; and certainty in His promise.

And when they knew that they must enter upon them; even if they hesitated; and even if the time was prolonged; because Allah promised them victory over them; and His promise is true; they expressed this with a tool of affirmation; contrary to what had passed for their masses; so they said: 'So when you enter it'; then they confirmed their news; certainty in the promise of Allah; so they said: 'Indeed, you will be victorious'; meaning: because the king is with you against them; 'and upon Allah'; meaning: the greatest king; who promised you the inheritance of it alone; 'so put your trust'; meaning: not upon a number from you; nor upon preparation; nor upon strength; nor upon power. And when sincerity necessitates reliance; and the absence of fear from other than Allah; He inspired them with His saying: 'If you are'; meaning: by nature and disposition; 'believers'; meaning: deeply rooted in faith in your Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and in believing all that he brought.
