Commentary
Then he followed it with what binds these blessings with gratitude; by obeying the command in the struggle against the enemies; in a context indicating victory; informing that it is another blessing that must be thanked; for this reason, he connected it with what preceded; the connection of the effect with the cause; so he said: "O my people, enter"; by the command of Allah, who informed you of what He has done of the signs that He is dominant over all His affairs; "the sacred land"; meaning: the purified and blessed one; which Allah has decreed to purify by His prophets and messengers from the filth of polytheism and the harm of sins and falsehood; and to bless in it; then he described it with what necessitates for the believer to advance to achieve victory; so he said: "which Allah has written"; meaning: the One to whom belongs all command; so there is no barrier to what He has given "to you"; meaning: by fighting His enemies; so that you inherit their land which has no equal; and you attain the happiness of both abodes; and it is the House of Al-Maqdis; which your father Ibrahim - peace be upon him - was promised to be an inheritance for his children; after he made it his place of migration.
And when he commanded them with that; he forbade them from being lazy about it; so he said - indicating that opposing the command of Allah can only be by addressing the original nature: "and do not turn back"; meaning: do not burden yourselves with returning from taking it; and he depicted for them the slackness in taking it with what would embarrass one who has determination from mentioning it; so he said: "to your backs"; and when he combined between the command and the prohibition; he frightened them of the consequences of disobedience; informing that their turning back is a cause for their destruction without a doubt; so he said - expressing in the passive form -: "then you will turn"; meaning: from yourselves; without a form being imposed upon you; "losing"; meaning: with the disgrace of sin before Allah; and the shame of cowardice before people; and the failure of striving for the good of both abodes.
