And when he mentioned the vastness of his kingdom; and the completeness of his knowledge; and the comprehensiveness of his power; he followed that with a reference to the story of the Children of Israel; in their rescue from the bondage of servitude; and slavery; and in elevating their status; and inheriting them the land of the tyrants after the destruction of Pharaoh and his soldiers; and other than that which the story contains; to demonstrate - by not returning them to Egypt, whose people were destroyed - the completeness of power; and the vastness of kingship; and the enforcement of command; and yet it is an indication of their breaking the covenant; and their harshness; and the violation of what they claimed of their sonship; and their love; and that it speaks of their torment; and their corruption; and their disavowal of Allah; and none of that is the action of a beloved or a child; so he said - referring to 'the favor'; in: 'And remember the favor of Allah upon you'; reminding this nation of the favor of the confirmation of hearing and obedience; which the Children of Israel rejected after they saw the signs; and by which He restrained them despite their weakness; and encouraged their hearts; and obligated them to obedience; and made disobedience hateful to them in contrast to what He did with the Children of Israel; and other than that which the contemplation of the story guides to -: 'And when'; meaning: and remember when; 'Moses said to his people'; meaning: from the Jews; 'O my people, remember'; meaning: with the heart and the tongue; meaning: a remembrance of consideration; and admonition; regarding what you have of the strength to carry out what you attempt; so that gratitude may arise from you; 'the favor of Allah'; meaning: the kindness of the Greatest King; who has encompassed majesty and honor; and he expressed the kindness with the utmost; because it is the intended goal; 'upon you'; and he magnified that reminder with the greatest name; and alerted by mentioning its circumstance to the greatest of favors; and it is prophethood; which saves them from the fire; so he said: 'when'; meaning: at the time; 'He made in you'; and he gave them glad tidings of one who would come after him from the prophets of the Children of Israel; so he gathered the multitude in his saying: 'prophets'; meaning: they will protect you from the everlasting calamities; so he acted with you - with that and other than it from the favors with which He preferred you over the worlds in those times - as a beloved does with his beloved; and as a father does with his child; and yet He punished you when you disobeyed; and He was angry with you when you refused; so He knew that honor and humiliation are revolving; after His will; upon obedience and disobedience.
And when He transferred them from the state in which they were slaves to Pharaoh; they were not suitable for kingship with it; nor did their souls speak of it; to the state of freedom, which is capable of making each of them a king; after He sent a messenger to them; and gave glad tidings that he would follow him from the prophets what had not been in any nation other than them; He said: ﴿And made you kings﴾; meaning: just as He made you so after you were not desiring anything of it; He has transferred it from you; and placed it in others with that power which He has bestowed upon you; and that is for your disbelief in the blessings; and your preference for ignorance over knowledge; for your denial of that; and the specification of the blessings for you is a control; and a preference without a reason; and this clarifies that the disbelief in the blessing is a cause for its removal; and they were threatened; in the Torah and elsewhere; with what they are in now of the humiliation and poverty that they are not suitable for kingship with it; if they disbelieve - as some of that will come in this surah.
And when He reminded them (the Exalted) of what He reminded them of from the general blessings; He followed the reminder with a specific blessing; He said: ﴿And He gave you what He did not give﴾; meaning: in your time; nor in what preceded it from the past time - as the expression with 'did not' necessitated; ﴿anyone from the worlds﴾; from the signs which He manifested through the hand of Musa - blessings and peace be upon him -; so He brought you out by it from darkness to light; and the book which He made a clarification for everything;
