Commentary
[Isa] said; and he attributed it to him as an addition in the clarification of it; for the sake of truth; and because he has no father; and to refute those who praised him; or lowered his status; so he said: "Son of Mary, O Allah"; thus he began his supplication with the greatest name; then with the description of kindness; he said: "Our Lord"; meaning: O You who are kind to us; "send down upon us"; and he presented the intended matter; so he said: "a table spread"; and he confirmed the place of the descent by saying: "from the heaven"; then he described it with that which would be a source of great amazement; of high rank; so he said: "it will be"; meaning: it is; or the day of its descent; "a festival for us"; and the origin of the festival is every day in which there is a gathering; then he qualified it with joy; so the meaning is: we will return to it repeatedly; joyfully with it; and perhaps from it will come blessings when it is returned to him - peace be upon him - as in the authentic hadiths; and this is supported by his saying - changing from "for us" -: "for our first and our last" (p-358). And when he mentioned the worldly matter; he followed it with the religious matter; so he said: "and a sign from You"; meaning: a sign of my truthfulness; "and provide for us"; meaning: provision that is absolute; not restricted by it; and when the estimation was: for You are the best of those who are asked; he added to it his saying: "and You are the best of providers"; meaning: for indeed You enrich whom You give; and increase him beyond what he hopes for and desires; with that which does not diminish anything from what is with You; and You do not ask anything from him except that he benefits himself with that which You have empowered him to do from Your obedience with that provision; "Allah said" [Al-Ma'idah: 115]; meaning: the King who encompasses knowledge; and power.
