And when the miracles are only sought for the faith of those who have not believed; and in this response is the most complete reprimand for them; the listener yearned for their response; so it was said: 'They did not cease; rather they said: Indeed, we do not want it for the sake of removing doubt from us; rather we want a collection of matters: that we eat from it; for we are hungry; and when the estimation is: so that its blessing may be obtained for us; he added: 'and that our hearts may be assured'; meaning: by combining what we have seen of it with what has preceded from Your miracles; without our asking about it; 'and we may know'; meaning: with certainty; and its truth; 'that You have indeed spoken the truth to us'; meaning: in all that You have informed us of; 'and we be among those'; and they indicated its generality by partiality; so they said: 'of the witnesses'; meaning: the testimony of a vision that confirms that it has occurred; not the testimony of faith that it is possible to occur.
