Commentary
And when he mentioned the love, adornment, and aversion, and what it produces of guidance, he mentioned its cause to inform that He, glorified and exalted is He, is not obligated to anything, urging gratitude. So he said: ﴿as a favor﴾ meaning: as an increase, a generosity, and a great, immense favor, and a high rank from Allah, the Greatest King, in whose hand is everything. ﴿and as a blessing﴾ meaning: and a good, pleasant life, and ease, comfort, and honor.
And when the estimation was: so Allah is the Bestower of favor, in His hand is every harm and benefit, he followed it with His saying: ﴿and Allah﴾ meaning: the One who encompasses the attributes of perfection ﴿is All-Knowing﴾ meaning: the One who encompasses all knowledge, for He knows the conditions of the believers and the differences among them. ﴿and All-Wise﴾ meaning: the One who is profound in wisdom, for He places things in their most appropriate and perfect positions. Therefore, He placed His favor of prophethood and faith according to His knowledge and wisdom.
