Commentary

And when it indicated the victory by the help and what was with it, and it justified the religion by tranquility, it justified the reason for the evidence, which is: ﴿so that they may increase in faith﴾ [Al-Fath: 4]. And it justified what was indicated by the King of the armies from their management and the management of the universes by them with His saying, glorified and exalted is He, an increase in tranquility: ﴿to admit﴾ meaning: by what He caused in tranquility ﴿the believing men and the believing women﴾ who were created with a nature of goodness by the jihad of some of them and the entry of some of them into the religion by the jihad of the mujahideen. And if He had unleashed His armies upon the disbelievers from the beginning and destroyed them or annihilated them without any intermediary, the entry of most of them into Paradise would have been missed, and they are those who believed among them after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. ﴿Gardens﴾ meaning: orchards that cannot be comprehended by your minds from their description except for what you know by your minds, even if the matter is greater than that. ﴿Flowing﴾ and it indicated and brought closer with His saying: ﴿from beneath them rivers﴾. So, whichever place you intend to have a river flow from, you are able to do that; because the water is close to the surface of the earth despite its hardness and beauty. And when the water does not become pleasant except with a base, He said, glorified and exalted is He: ﴿they will abide therein﴾ meaning: not to the end.

And when the listener of this might think that His action is deserved, He indicated that there is no cause except His mercy: ﴿and He will forgive﴾ meaning: He covers a covering that is profound and comprehensive ﴿their sins﴾ which is not wise to enter Paradise, the abode of holiness, before their forgiveness, because of what they were entangled in from it, from disbelief and others. Thus, that forgiveness was a reason for their entering Paradise. ﴿And that was﴾ meaning: the great matter of admission and forgiveness that prepares for it. And He advanced the circumstance to magnify it, so He said, glorified and exalted is He: ﴿with Allah﴾ meaning: the greatest King, the Possessor of glory and honor ﴿a great victory﴾ that fills all directions.
