And when this was an ancient prevailing custom with the allies of Allah, the Most High, wherever they were among the messengers and their followers, and that Our soldiers are the victorious ones, He, the Most High, said: ﴿The tradition of Allah﴾ meaning: the established way that encompasses this creation in this time and what follows it, just as it encompassed the creation in ancient times. Therefore, He said: ﴿Which has passed﴾ meaning: a confirmed tradition that does not change. And He emphasized the time for the fighting, which did not occur in the past except after the revelation of the Torah, so He said: ﴿Before﴾. As for before that, destruction would occur by a command from Allah without the hands of the believers. ﴿And you will not find﴾ O listener, ﴿the tradition of Allah﴾ that does not contradict a saying, for He is encompassing all attributes of perfection. ﴿Any change﴾ meaning: a change from any changer that changes it with something that would replace it.
