"And He will guide you" in this matter that has overwhelmed you and disturbed you with steadfastness at the time of hearing the promise and warning and trust in its content; for indeed, He is capable and wise, so He does not break the promise by guiding you "to a straight path" meaning: a wide, clear path leading to honor without doubt. And this is from the signs of prophethood; for indeed, no one among those addressed by this verse, who are the people of Hudaybiyyah, went astray. And it seems - and Allah knows best - that is why He did not say: "And He will guide them" - in the unseen as the context necessitated so that it does not include others among those whose truthfulness in faith appears and then goes astray.
