سَيَقُولُ لَكَ ٱلۡمُخَلَّفُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابِ شَغَلَتۡنَآ أَمۡوَٰلُنَا وَأَهۡلُونَا فَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لَنَاۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأَلۡسِنَتِهِم مَّا لَيۡسَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ قُلۡ فَمَن يَمۡلِكُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـًٔا إِنۡ أَرَادَ بِكُمۡ ضَرًّا أَوۡ أَرَادَ بِكُمۡ نَفۡعَۢاۚ بَلۡ كَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ خَبِيرَۢا ١١ ﴿11
11Those of the Bedouins who remained behind will say to you, “Our possessions and our families kept us busy, (hence we could not accompany you in your journey to Hudaibiyah). So, pray to Allah for our forgiveness.” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts.Say, “Then, who has power to help you in any thing against Allah, if He intends to do you harm, or intends to do you good? Rather, Allah is fully aware of what you do.

And when He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned the people of the Pledge of Ridwan, and added them to the presence of the Most Merciful, the listener yearned for news about those who were absent from that noble gathering, and who delayed from the presence of that Umrah. Thus, the news was resumed about those who hypocritically spoke with His saying, 'He will say,' meaning: with a promise that there is no contradiction in it. He confirmed the matter of their hypocrisy as a warning about their endurance in it and their stubbornness regarding it, along with the gentleness of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and the intensity of his mercy and compassion. He said: 'To you,' meaning: because they know that you are the most gentle of creation in companionship and the most compassionate towards the servants of Allah. They hope for your acceptance of their corrupt excuse, what they do not hope for from others among the sincere believers. They were unaware that, due to their hard-heartedness, lying in your presence is extremely vile; for you are the greatest of creation and the most insightful among them, along with what comes to you from the news of the Knower of the Unseen. And when there had remained behind in body from the pure Ansar and others who were present with him, blessings and peace be upon him, in heart, He brought them out with His saying: 'From the Bedouins,' meaning: the people of the desert, falsely and slanderously, daringly against Allah and His Messenger. They said: 'Our wealth and our families have occupied us,' meaning: if we leave them, they will be lost; for we have no one to take care of them, and you have forbidden wasting wealth and neglecting dependents. Then they caused this intended evil by their saying: 'So ask forgiveness for us,' meaning: seek forgiveness from Allah for us if we have erred or fallen short.

And when this might deceive those who have no experience, He, the Most High, responded with His saying, warning that whoever is truthful with Allah is not distracted by anything from Him. And whoever is distracted by something from Him is in misfortune: ﴿They say﴾. And He expressed this in the present tense to indicate that this is their habit which they do not cease from. And when faith was established after that, He did not express their habit with words, as in the case of the hypocrites, but rather said: ﴿With their tongues﴾, meaning: in the act of seeking forgiveness. And He emphasized what the mention of the tongue implies, that it is an apparent saying negating the true speech which is the internal one in every regard with His saying: ﴿What is not in their hearts﴾ because they had no concern nor intention in asking for forgiveness.

And when the estimation is certain: no one possesses anything from Him, glorified is He, for them of that, but He is capable of all that He wills from them. And your actions, due to your coarseness, ignorance, and density, are the actions of one who thinks that He cannot overpower you and does not know much of what you do, so your lies are hidden from Him. And the matter is not as you assumed; for nothing of your actions is hidden from Him. He built upon that which guided to His estimation and said, the Most High: ﴿Rather, Allah﴾, meaning: the One who encompasses eternally and always with all power and knowledge ﴿is All-Aware of what you do﴾, meaning: the ignorant ones ﴿is All-Aware﴾, meaning: He knows the hidden matters of you and others as He knows their apparent ones.
