Commentary
And when he clarified what he did to them so that his party would dare against them, he explained its reason so that it would be avoided. He said: "That is the matter far removed from good, because they hated, despised, opposed, and denied what Allah, the Greatest King, who has no blessing except from Him, has revealed. The one who revealed it from the Qur'an and the Sunnah is the spirit of existence, which they do not oppose. So when they hated the greatest spirit, their spirits became nullified, and their shadows followed it. This is the meaning of his words, causing a clarification of the meaning of the nullification of their deeds: 'So He nullified' means: He invalidated an invalidation with no righteousness with it their deeds, because they corrupted them with their intentions. Thus, even if their forms were righteous, they had no spirits, as they were occurring contrary to what Allah commanded, who has no command except that which He accepts from the deeds except what He has defined and prescribed. This is a warning to the nation that if they abandon supporting Allah and striving in His cause, and commanding what is good and forbidding what is wrong, and all of it glorified and exalted is He, to themselves and abandon their support, [and He will unleash upon them their enemy]. Indeed, some of that has been found from the dominance of the wicked when there was negligence in some of that and reliance upon it.
