Commentary
And when He mentioned the people of faith, He clarified what is for the people of disbelief. He said, glorified and exalted is He: "And those who disbelieve" meaning: they have concealed what the intellect has indicated and what the innate dispositions have led to. He clarified that the evil of their deeds is the cause of their ruin. He said, emphasizing by making the news an absolute action in order to distance them by what they have of strength due to their large numbers and their abundance: "So woe" meaning: they have stumbled, and it is said to them what is said to the one who stumbles and is intended not to stand: woe, there is no standing with him, just as it is said to one who has stumbled and is intended to be raised: woe to you. The intended meaning of woe is degradation, humiliation, and anxiety.
And when it was as if it was said: For whom is this? It was said: "For them" so they hardly remain firm in fighting for those whose deeds are righteous.
And when a person may stumble and fall and it is said to him: woe, and he stands up after that, and his deed is not invalidated, it was clarified that His saying is not like that. Rather, whatever He has said will not be absent at all. He said, expressing in the past as an indication of its inevitability. As for the future, perhaps He will accept repentance from some of them in it, leaning towards what you estimate. He, the Most High, said to them that: "And He has led astray their deeds" even if they appear to have certainty due to the neglect of the foundation of faith.
