Commentary
And when this is a great reward and a tremendous gift, He followed it with a reward greater than it by saying, "And He will admit them to Paradise". That is: the abode of eternal bliss in delight. He answered the one who seemed to be asking about how He would admit them to it and its nature at that time by saying, "He made it known to them". That is, by making known the deeds that lead to it and granting them success towards it in this world, and also by enlightening them about the ranks in the Hereafter, so that one of them becomes more aware of his rank therein than of his rank in this world. And the pleasant fragrance of it and making its place high, and its walls high, and it has chambers and balconies. And in this verse is a great glad tidings for whoever strives for even an hour; that Allah will cause him to die upon Islam, which entails that his deeds will not be wasted. This is supported by what was narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Kabir from Fadalah ibn Ubayd al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, say: "Islam has three levels: the lower, the upper, and the chamber. As for the lower, Islam has entered into it the majority of the Muslims, so do not ask anyone among them except that he says: I am a Muslim. As for the upper, it is the distinction of their deeds; some Muslims are better than others. And as for the upper chamber, it is jihad in the way of Allah, and none will attain it except the best of them."
