And when He, glorified and exalted is He, presented the blame of the disbelievers and that it is upon them, and that He nullifies their deeds in this world in war and otherwise, and concluded that His enmity towards them is inevitable with no escape from it, this necessitated their boldness against them. This caused His saying, encouraging them to adhere to jihad and warning against abandoning it: "So do not weaken," meaning: do not become weak in a way that leads you to humiliation and disgrace, "and invite your enemies to peace," meaning: to reconciliation, which is the truce, "while you are the most exalted over all who oppose you, for Allah is with you." Then He referred to the state by saying: "And Allah," meaning: the greatest King who is not incapacitated by anything and there is no equal to Him, "is with you," meaning: with His support and assistance and all that the Generous does when He is with others. And whoever knows that his master is with him and knows that He is capable of what He wants will not care about anything at all. "And He will not deprive you of your deeds," meaning: He will not take them away from you, making you a loss from them, meaning that He nullifies them as He does with your enemies in nullifying their deeds, so they become isolated from them. This is because you have not nullified your deeds by making this world the focus of your affairs. Therefore, it is not permissible for the Imam of the Muslims to respond to the peace of the disbelievers while he has strength against them, nor is it permissible for him to abandon jihad except for a reason that shows consideration for the Muslims. And whenever he does not strive in the way of Allah, his strength will turn against the Muslims.
