And when it became clear what he informed about first concerning the disbelievers, that they are defeated in this world and are losers in the Hereafter. The loss in the Hereafter is conditional upon a condition. He explained what the believers were commanded here regarding obedience and what they were prohibited from, which is the invalidation of deeds by sin. This is an addition to encourage them towards what he commanded with two reasons, each of which is independent in complying with his command and avoiding his prohibition: one is the lack of forgiveness, and the second is the invalidation of deeds and wealth due to the fact that this world has no reality. He presented the first reason because the second - which is that this world is play - is like the cause that necessitates it. Among the good teaching is to clarify the ruling and then explain it with the closest thing that can be applied to it or that can deter from it. It is as if it was said: Do not invalidate it by turning away from the path of Allah, which leads to the inclination towards this world, which is the essence of falsehood. For if you do that, you will miss forgiveness. This is from the meaning of His saying, the Exalted, confirming their denial of its content: "Indeed, those who disbelieved" meaning: they committed disbelief by their actions, the action of one who covers what his mind has indicated from the visible signs of Allah, then the audible ones. "And they turned away from the path of Allah" meaning: the path of the Most High King, the clear, straight path that leads to everything that should be sought by anyone who desires it, by their persistence in their falsehood and their harm to those who oppose them.

And when this is an ugly matter from many aspects due to what is in it of opposing the Most Great King, whose might is feared and whose power is dreaded, and whoever leaves the vast for the narrow, the straight for the crooked, and the one that leads to success for the one that leads to failure. Therefore, persistence in it is extremely distant. He alerted to that with the tool of delay, saying: "Then they died" meaning: after the extension given to them in their arena by prolonging their lives. "And they" meaning: while they are "disbelievers." And when the greatest cause of invalidation is dying upon disbelief, he alerted to it with the conjunction indicating the connection of the reward to the condition and its causation from it. He said, confirming it for their denial of that: "So Allah will not forgive them" meaning: the One encompassing all attributes of perfection that prevent equating the wrongdoer with the good-doer. "For them" meaning: He will not erase their sins nor conceal their faults. Rather, He will expose their secrets, weaken their plots, and turn them back on their heels in everything they engage in. Because they have invalidated their deeds by stepping outside the circle of obedience, nothing remains for them that can be forgiven because of it. This verse indicates what the verse of Al-Baqarah indicated, that the invalidation of deeds in the apostate is conditional upon dying upon disbelief.
