And when he described this believer, beginning with him due to being in the context of goodness, and the intended meaning of man is the species, he praised him in the plural form, indicating that the acceptance of good deeds is conditional upon the kindness to parents. This is because what is apparent is a proof of what is hidden. Whoever does not thank those of his kind, especially when they are the closest people to him, particularly when they are the cause of his existence, has not thanked Allah, as in the hadith: "He who does not thank people has not thanked Allah." And whoever rectifies what is between him and [Allah, rectifies what is between him and] people in general, especially relatives by lineage or place, particularly parents: ﴿Those﴾ meaning the high-ranking ones ﴿whom We accept﴾ in the easiest way ﴿from them﴾. And He indicated, glorified and exalted is He, by the form of the verb indicating action that He acted in accepting them as one who is concerned. Hamzah, Al-Kisai, and Hafs read it with the letter 'n' in it and in the one that follows it. This is indicated by His saying, the Exalted: ﴿He has done good﴾. It is permissible that it refers to the generality of supplication or good deeds, and that what is less than the best is accepted, accepted absolutely according to the intention in it. And the preposition 'by' indicates that their natures are built upon ascending in the ranks of perfection at all times without end. So these virtues are not [from them] meaning that they are created for something higher than them in their ends, and the lesson is in the ends. That is why He, the Exalted, said: ﴿What they have done﴾ and did not say: their deeds. And when man is a place of deficiency, even if he is good, He pointed out that the condition for the expiation of sins is repentance by His saying, the Exalted: ﴿And We will overlook﴾ meaning: with an accepted promise that must be, which is the meaning of the reading of Hamzah and Al-Kisai with the letter 'n' in the two verbs ﴿from their sins﴾ meaning: so He will not punish them for them.
And when this implies that they are among the people of Paradise, He explicitly stated it as an addition in praising them by saying: ﴿among the companions of Paradise﴾ meaning: that He has done this with them while they are among them; because they have not ceased to be in His sight of pleasure. And when this was a promise, He confirmed its content by saying: ﴿a promise of truth﴾ because it corresponds to reality ﴿which they were﴾ with a very firm existence ﴿promised﴾ meaning: the promise is cut for them in this world from one who is more truthful than them, and they are the messengers, blessings and peace be upon them.
