Commentary
And when He negated from them the prohibited, He extended to them the preference of joy. So He, the Most High, said: ﴿Those﴾ meaning the high in degrees ﴿are the companions of Paradise﴾. And when the companionship indicated permanence, He made it clear by His saying, the Most High: ﴿They will remain in it﴾, a permanence that has no end. They were granted that ﴿as a reward﴾. And when they were doers of good, their deeds were in the utmost purity. He, the Most High, made them causes, first and second. So He said, indicating their continuity because it is in their natures: ﴿By what they used to﴾ meaning: by nature and character ﴿do﴾ in a manner of continuous renewal.
