And when the estimation is for the indication of the sealing of their feelings, they said, while acknowledging His uniqueness, glorified and exalted is He, in creating them and providing for them and creating all existing things, in denial of the Oneness: "Indeed, He has partners." He followed this with His saying: ﴿And they said﴾ meaning: in their denial of resurrection while acknowledging that He is capable of all things and their knowledge that He has promised that in the miraculous methods, and that it is not befitting for a Wise One at all to leave those under His control to be in confusion without a judgment among them: ﴿What is it﴾ meaning: life ﴿except our life﴾ meaning: O people ﴿the worldly life﴾ meaning: this which we are in, while the remembrance of the meaning of this description, which is a matter forgotten, cannot be understood except by addition to another life after this, which is sufficient in proving resurrection.

And when they established by their false claim this life, they followed it with its condition and said: ﴿We die and we live﴾ meaning: the soul is taken from some and he dies, and it is blown into [another] one and he lives, and there is no life after death for the one who has died. They have stripped themselves by this saying from humanity to animality due to their standing with the particulars. And when their destruction in their claim has no end, they counted life in comparison to it as nonexistence, so they did not mention it and said in their ignorance: ﴿And what destroys us﴾ meaning: after this life ﴿except time﴾ meaning: the long time by its predominance over us with the renewal of its approach and the renewal of our retreat by the descent of the disliked matters upon us, from his time - if it overcomes him. And when this weak saying was attributed to them, their condition was clarified by His saying: So He said, glorified and exalted is He: ﴿And what﴾ meaning: they said while the condition is that there is no ﴿for them in that﴾ meaning: the saying far from correctness, which is that there is no life after this, and that destruction is attributed to time as if it is effective by itself. And He immersed them in negation and said: ﴿Of knowledge﴾ meaning: much or little ﴿If﴾ meaning: what ﴾they are except assuming﴾ by the evidence that man, whenever he advances in age, weakens, and that no one has returned from the dead.
