Commentary
Then he explained this prohibition, warning by saying: [emphasizing a reminder that whoever opposes the command of Allah for the sake of anyone, their action is the action of one who thinks that it will protect him]: ﴿Indeed, they﴾ And he affirmed the negation by saying: ﴿Will not avail you﴾ meaning: there will not be a type of protection that begins from Allah ﴾the All-Encompassing﴿ in power and knowledge that reaches it, and everything that does not have a connection to Him is nonexistence ﴾nothing﴾ of protection if they follow them, just as they will not be able to do anything to harm you if you oppose them and are hostile to them.
And since the estimation is: they are oppressors who do not place anything in its proper place, and whoever follows them is one of them, Allah, the Exalted, said, adding to it: ﴿And indeed﴾ and the original was: and indeed they, but He made it clear for the purpose of informing about their description, saying: ﴿The oppressors﴾ meaning: those deeply entrenched in this blameworthy description ﴾Some of them are allies of one another﴾ so there is no alliance - meaning closeness - between them and the Wise, fundamentally due to the distance between the two descriptions. Thus, all their actions are [entirely] invalid due to being built on a foundation other than that of those who think otherwise, adhering to the apparent matters in this world. ﴾And Allah﴾ meaning: the One who possesses all attributes of majesty, beauty, might, and perfection ﴾is the ally of the righteous﴾ those whose greatest concern is to be characterized by wisdom by taking protective measures that save them from the wrath of Allah. (p-89) And there is no alliance between Him and the oppressors.
