Commentary
And when he knew of these wisdoms, with which the chapter was opened, that this book is indeed from a Mighty, Wise One, the estimation was thus: Indeed, We have given you the Book, the Judgment, and Prophethood, and We have preferred you and your nation over the worlds. We have sent you to warn the people about what is before them. And his people, after their coming together in misguidance, had differed regarding this book, which they should have had a strong consensus about and sought help for its sake. He turned to it, comforting his words: 'And indeed, We have given.' That is, based on what We have of greatness and magnificent power, 'the Children of Israel,' the Prophet of Allah, the son of your uncle Isaac, the Prophet of Allah, the son of your father Abraham, the Friend of Allah, blessings and peace be upon them. 'The Book,' which encompasses all good, and it includes the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and others that were revealed to their prophets. 'And the Judgment,' meaning: the knowledge and the steadfast action, the steadfastness of the rulings, in such a way that corruption does not affect them, due to the beauty of knowledge in action, and the perfection of action in knowledge. 'And the Prophethood,' which is how the great news is perceived, which cannot be known by any means of acquisition from them. Thus, We have increased among them the prophets. 'And We provided them,' by Our greatness, for the establishment of their bodies, 'with good things,' from manna and quails and other sustenance from Us and others. 'And We preferred them,' by what We have of honor, 'over the worlds,' and they are those whom We have indeed created for them in their time and before it. Indeed, We have given them from the visible and audible signs, and We have increased among them the prophets in a way that We did not do for others who came before them. And all of that is a clear favor.
