Commentary
And when they were showing resilience and stubbornness, that they do not care about anything from the Qur'an or anything else that comes with it, nor do they consider anything from it an ayah that informs about what they conceal of their fear and their waiting for all that threatens them. This is confirmed for the sake of the assumption of those who took their resilience to mean that it is strength. So He said: ﴿Indeed, they﴾. And He emphasized the matter by informing with the name that indicates steadfastness and permanence, saying: ﴿Waiting﴾. That is, their obligation to themselves to remain vigilant and their exertion of their thoughts in that is constant and does not leave them. Rather, it has cut their hearts and filled their chests. Indeed, the end of the surah corresponds to its beginning, and to the intended meaning of its general and detailed aspects, by mentioning the Book and the waiting for types of punishment. And Allah is the Guide to what is right. Indeed, He is the Generous, the Bestower.
