Commentary
And when he mentioned this day, which indicated its greatness with this expression, both in its singularity and composition, he mentioned from its description what carries on fear and hope. He said, replacing it: "On a day when no one will avail [another]" in any way, whether by kinship or otherwise, by an oath or servitude, from above or below, "from a protector" intended to be taken for what has occurred from him, "anything" of availing. And since availing can sometimes be through gentleness and at other times through force, he specified the latter because it is the greater of them, and the context is for destruction and subjugation. He said: "And they will not be helped," meaning the two groups, "by any helper" if some of them wanted to help one another, or if others wanted to, if it were assumed that they would help them. And he expressed it in the plural, which implied ambiguity for the protector, to encompass both the few and the many of it; because the negation from him is a negation from individuals, all the more so.
