Commentary

And when it was established by what has passed that He, glorified and exalted is He, is characterized by giving life and causing death, and that denying this is stubbornness that no one who affirms the deity can deny, and that acknowledging this in some cases and denying it in others is arbitrary and contrary to the ruling of reason and the decisive transmission. And among the signs that were given to them is their being brought back to life after their death when they sought the vision, and the thunderbolt struck them. And when they left their homes while they were thousands in fear of death, that was the resurrection itself. And the Arabs denied it and exaggerated in their denial of it, and they did not ask them about it. He said, reproaching them and emphasizing that it is hardly believable that anyone would deny this due to the evidence it possesses: "Indeed," and he belittled them by saying: "These," meaning the lowly, few, and humiliated, "will surely say," meaning: after the conclusive argument has been established against them, exaggerating in denial in a manner comparable to the emphasis of affirmation.
