Commentary

And when he informed them of his coming to them with the message that can only be through words, he explained what reached them of it by saying: ﴿That you should deliver﴾ meaning: convey with kindness and good intention. He emphasized this in the form of a command that cannot be disobeyed. And since there was a thick barrier of the oppression of Pharaoh and his people between Musa, blessings and peace be upon him, and his action with his people, he indicated [to him] with a preposition of purpose and said: ﴿To Me﴾ and alerted him that he has no authority over them by saying: ﴿O servants of Allah﴾ meaning: O Children of Israel whom you have oppressed unjustly, and there is no servitude upon them except to the One who manifested in their affairs the attributes of His majesty and beauty by what He did with their forefather Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, and those after him, and what will manifest from what you see and what will come after you.

And when they had benefit from him if they followed what he brought them and harm if they rejected it, which is not for anyone but them, and since no one else could deliver the Children of Israel to him from the people of the earth due to their being contained with him, it was most appropriate to prioritize the neighbor in the most precise matters. Therefore, he said, emphasizing their denial of his message, blessings and peace be upon him: ﴿Indeed, I am for you﴾ meaning: specifically because of that ﴿a messenger﴾ meaning: [from] the One from whom the complete message can only be. And since a person cannot be entrusted with governance except with sufficient trust, he described himself with what removes their excuse and establishes the proof against them: ﴿Trustworthy﴾ meaning: one who possesses great trust; for the Sovereign, the Just, does not send except one who is like that.
