And when He, glorified and exalted is He, turned the address away from them as a humiliation for them, He made clear that the reason for it is that their disease is chronic, and it will never cease. So He said, affirming the improbability of their removal from what they are in: "Indeed, we" meaning: with what we have of greatness through the encompassing knowledge and otherwise, "are the ones who will remove the punishment" [meaning] from you by the supplication of your Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, in the statement that the smoke was what they were seeing because of hunger from the drought, "a little" to establish the proof against you, not due to the concealment of what is in your hearts from us. And when they had affirmed the news of their faith, which is false, He, glorified and exalted is He, affirmed the news of their lying, and who is more truthful than He, glorified and exalted is He, in speech. So He said, confirming His saying, the Most High: "And if they were returned, they would return to what they were forbidden from" [Al-An'am: 28] "And indeed, they are liars" [Al-An'am: 28] "Indeed, you will return" meaning: your return is certain after Our revealing the truth about you in that short time to disbelief, even if you affirmed the existence of faith [with the strongest oaths] due to what is in your natures of deviation and due to your dispositions of hastening to error. So your faith that you informed us of its firmness is a fleeting occurrence and a false illusion. And if this is in the end of times, there is no wonder that the address to them is in its reality with ownership or otherwise from whom Allah, glorified and exalted is He, will return; for that is the time of breaking the norms and overturning the continuities, establishing the proof against them, and He has the conclusive proof, and it is a lesson for us and teaching.
